Go Team, Go!
March 20, 2019
Being a no-cut sport, the girls soccer teams now have 17 on junior varsity, (with captains sophomore Kayleigh Kolb and freshman Alexis Ferrell) and 18 on varsity, (with captains seniors Aubrianna Kolb, Michelle Ferrell, and junior Madison Ciemnicki).
Tryouts were a mix of drills consisting of dribbling, running, and shooting. All members were to perform the beep test to test their speed and endurance. The last day of tryouts, March 13, the girls even had a game to see how they would work together to begin the season. After last year’s achievement of the second round of Districts, their goals this year are to build up the team for the next year and make it as far into Districts as they can.
After tryouts March 11-13 the track team is now made up of about 40 people some with experience while others with none. Mrs. Grady is head coach this year while Coach Bob is assistant coach and he is in charge of the distance portion of the track team. The third coach has yet to be determined. Track consisting of multiple events such as the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, and 3200 meter. Then relays like the 4-by-4, 4-by-2, 4-by-1, and 4-by-8 where four people run either 400, 200, 100, or 800 meters each.
“Even though track and field is a no-cut sport, I will only be keeping those who are committed and going to try to better themselves to become the best,” Coach and Math teacher Mrs. Grady said.
