Toys For Tots
December 16, 2019
The annual Toys For Tots drive, sponsored by the National Honor Society, concluded in early December. For the second year in a row, Mrs. Boyce’s second hour won the class competition, earning doughnuts and hot chocolate.
‘It’s a great program that we do at JGHS,” NHS sponsor Mrs. Norton said. “It’s been going on for at least 10 years. We ask the community to donate toys to kids who have a hard time getting toys.”
While the school did not have a specific number of toys as a goal, they collected 240 toys this year, Norton said. “Last year we had about 300 toys. I would say 200 is a good goal though,” she added.
After questions about who participated and who did not participate, she said some staff did not participate, but they encouraged everyone, and she would love to see everyone have toys for next year.
It was Norton’s first year helping with NHS. She looks forward to doing it again next year. “I love doing it because it feels so good knowing you helped a kid have a great Christmas,” she said. “I think it’s a really awesome thing, being a good fellow, and provide great services.”
