The one who stole Christmas

Most people believe that “the original is always better”. For this movie, that isn’t the case.

Another Grinch movie was produced, and is currently in theaters. When my mom saw the trailer, she automatically knew my whole family was going to watch it. The only reason I agreed to go is because she’s my mom and I can’t say no. If it were up to me, we’d never watch that. Good thing is the movie was less than two hours long.

My attitude on the movie changed as soon as it started.

The traditional Grinch song that always plays at the beginning was so different. The producers of the movie made a very good choice in choosing Tyler the Creator to switch up the song. The lyrics weren’t changed, but the rhythm had a “Tyler twist” to it that made it seem modern and more enjoyable.

The movie animation was also incredible. Every character and setting was well developed and detailed. This was the main reason why I didn’t like the Grinch. Everyone loves the Jim Carrey version of the Grinch, except for me. When I was little and watched it for the first time, I hated it. I thought the Grinch was so ugly, along with all the other characters. Their weird, wrinkly facial expressions made me uncomfortable to the point of never watching the movie again. With this new movie, even the Grinch is adorable.

I know the plot is the same for all three Grinch movies and the book, but I think this movie did an amazing job of presenting it. I usually cry in movies regardless, but this movie made me cry. The mood changes flowed perfectly and allowed my tears to form at a slow pace.

Overall, the movie was hilarious. The jokes made were appropriate for all audiences and made the entire room laugh. Even if you’re not a big fan of the Grinch, like I once wasn’t, I recommend this movie to you.
