Queen is a British rock band formed in London, England in 1970. Since being formed, the band released countless albums for their fans to enjoy. On Nov. 2, the movie Bohemian Rhapsody was released to celebrate Queen, the directors wanted to show the story of their music while also telling the story of the late Freddie Mercury.
In the movie you see how Freddie grew up not really fitting in with his family, he was different, but being different was a good thing for him, it lead him to become the lead singer of Queen. Freddie helped the band really take off and become who they are today. The movie shows the band writing their songs and albums, fans get to see how things really worked. Later in the movie the band starts to really take off and Freddie is the star of it all, he let’s the fame go to his head and he starts showing up late to rehearsals and later leaves the band
to pursue a solo career. This decision tears the band apart; after time Freddie realizes that he needs the band and attempts to get the band back together. Once the band agrees to start playing together again Live Aid is right around the corner, the band is signed up and ready to rock. While this is going on they reveal that Freddie is suffering from AIDS, he doesn’t let it get in the way of his performance though. The movie ends with the Live Aid performance which has gone down in history as one of the greatest performances in rock music history.
“The movie was really good. The Live Aid concert was the best part of the whole film,” junior Jagger Disbrow said. “As someone who is 16 I can’t live and see Freddie Mercury on stage, this was the closest I could get.”
As someone who didn’t grow up in the time of Queen it was interesting to be able to sit in the theater and feel like I was there along with the band. The directors did an amazing job of making the audience feel every emotion the band feels during the film. You do not need to be a fan of Queen to enjoy the movie, everyone can watch the movie and feel the same joy.
